BCBA Plan

BCBA fieldwork hours planner

Short answer

The BACB offers two fieldwork pathways: Supervised Fieldwork requires 2,000 hours with supervision for 5% of the hours in each supervisory period, and Concentrated Supervised Fieldwork requires 1,500 hours with supervision for 10% of the hours. Both must be supervised by a qualified BCBA, and hours are logged per supervisory period (a calendar month).

Supervision must cover 5% of the hours accrued in each supervisory period.

Projection only. Supervisor qualifications, activity restrictions and monthly limits are set by the BACB Handbook; your portal record governs.

How this works

Hour totals and supervision percentages come from the Overview of Fieldwork Requirements table in the BCBA Handbook (June 2026). The planner divides the hours you still need by your weekly pace to project a finish date and converts the supervision percentage into hours per supervisory period at that pace (4.33 weeks per month). It does not validate supervisor qualifications, restricted/unrestricted activity ratios or monthly caps — read the Supervised Fieldwork Requirements section for those, and keep your BACB portal record as the source of truth.

Worked examples

900 hours logged on the concentrated pathway at 25 h/week → 600 hours left, about 24 weeks, with roughly 10.8 hours of supervision per month at that pace. The same 900 hours on the standard pathway leaves 1,100 hours (about 44 weeks) but only ~5.4 supervision hours per month.
